National Trust Dinefwr Park Photography Workshop

Dinefwr Park is a magical land of power and has been of great historic influence for more than 2,000 years. Situated in a strategic position, the Castle has a commanding view of the Twyi Valley and Newton House is set within a landscape of undulating topography and ancient trees that give it a special ambience.

Managed by the National Trust, Dinefwr Park was designated a National Nature Reserve in 2007 in recognition of the outstanding number of veteran oak trees and the insects that they support. Numerous landscape compositions and wildlife subjects abound here and we will spend time stalking the herd of 100 fallow deer and photographing the famous White Park cattle.

The area comes into its own in the autumn when the woodland is painted in spectacular oranges and reds. A different mood prevails in the depths of the winter months when a hard frost or a sprinkling of snow adds a graphic nature.

Dinefwr Castle and Castle Wood are owned by the Wildlife Trust for South and West Wales. Superb panoramic images can be made from the castle's lofty towers and the woodland is famous for its carpet of bluebells in the spring.

This is truly a chance escape to the country and get away from it all in the company of Welsh professional photographer and lecturer, Andy Davies. This workshop caters for all skill levels, from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. Hands-on expert tuition is provided to small groups who are initially taken back to the fundamentals of photography, rapidly progressing to having full creative control of either digital compact cameras with manual capability or digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLRs) with interchangeable lenses. There is plenty of time throughout the workshop for one-to-one tuition when topics of your interest can be explored.

News and images can be found on Andy's Facebook page here.
