I have been wanting to see puffins for years, putting them in the same bucket as Dodos - could they really exist?! Well, I finally made it on 19th June with Andy and it was even more than I hoped it would be. And would you believe it, the little critters are real! We had a beautiful sunny day, the birds were all really lively and incredibly brave, and the campion made the already gorgeous island look stunning.

Andy reminded us of the basics, which was really useful, particularly when we headed to the Wick and were faced with huge numbers of puffins, sunbathing, running around and flying back and forth with sand eels crammed in their mouths. It was hard to know where to stand and which way to look and I was just snapping away all day! It was great having Andy there to keep checking in and making sure we were doing things right. He was very good at reminding us to take a pause and check how it's going rather than just filling cards with useless shots.

It was a brilliant day and I'd go back like a shot... I actually loved it so much, I changed my plans and went back two days later!!

Thanks to Andy for introducing me to puffins at long last and I hope to get back again very soon.
