I have been to Skomer several times before but never on a day as glorious as this. The weather was perfect, sunny with a few clouds, good visibility and extensive stretches of late bluebells and pink campion covering most of the slopes. I can’t praise Andy highly enough for his initial instructions, reminding us how to hold the camera correctly (I needed reminding a few times!) and then not to rely on ‘Automatic’ but to use different aperture and focal length settings. He showed us how to check our playback images on the histogram and how to alter the exposure before repeating the shot.

We started taking our own photographs after a few tips and reminders on composition. As there were only 3 members in our group we were able to have plenty of one to one help and advice and this was invaluable. My only problem was seeing the playback images clearly in such bright sunlight!

We concentrated on landscapes for some of the morning before moving to the Wick and the wonderful puffins. More very useful advice and instruction was given on how to take photos of these fascinating creatures and then birds in flight! I obviously need a lot of practice with the latter! We had a very pleasant picnic break and then carried on with our ‘flight’ practice and watching puffins.

Fortunately we were on the last boat home so we had some time to photograph the razorbills with the puffins near the landing stage. As a bonus, a seal swam just below us before the boat came.
